Leptospermum scoparium var. Red - Manuka var. red

from $6.00

This red-flowered variety of Manuka is found throughout New Zealand in various environments and is still a highly valuable addition to the garden. It grows to 3-4 meters in height, with small, narrow, dark green leaves that have a sharp tip. The red flowers appear prolifically from spring, attracting bees and releasing a mild, sweet fragrance.

This fast-growing plant works well as a screen, shelter, or filler plant and is especially attractive with its unique red blooms. The red Manuka variant is a little more sensitive than the standard variety and will thrive better with some shade. Like other Manuka, it can be affected by Manuka blight (sooty mold on honeydew), which can be managed by using Maldison or simply accepted as a part of nature. Regular trimming helps maintain a neat shape.

Growing Conditions:

• Tolerances: Clay, Sun, Drought, Frost, Wind, Coastal

• Endemic Distribution: Indigenous to New Zealand and Australia (Tasmanian forms are similar to the South Island variety)

Specifications:

• Height: 5 meters

• Flowering: Year-round with red/pink or white flowers

• Fruiting: Persistent dry capsules (5-7mm wide) present throughout the year

Ideal Uses:

• Bird food/attractant
