Kunzea ericoides - Kanuka
The Kanuka is a well-known tree found throughout North West Nelson in forests and scrub. It typically reaches 5-6 meters in gardens but can grow up to 15 meters in the wild. Its small narrow dark green leaves are softer than those of Manuka, and it produces small white flowers in abundance during summer. Kanuka is very hardy and tolerates drought, frosts, and poor soils. It is especially useful for revegetation and as a shelter plant. A dwarf form and a low weeping form are sometimes available.
