Asplenium oblongifolium is a large fern characterised by stout stems that often form thick woody masses above ground. The fern has very glossy green pinnae that taper to a tip and display a conspicuous herringbone pattern of sori (spore-producing structures) on the lower surface.
Growing Environment:
• Tolerances: Shade, Wetland, Wind, Coastal, and Free-draining conditions.
• Endemic Distribution: Found throughout New Zealand, including the Kermadec Islands, Three Kings, North Island, South Island, and the Chatham Islands. In the South Island, it is known from the Marlborough Sounds south to Hokitika and Banks Peninsula.
