Shaking Brake is a delicate yet hardy terrestrial fern with thin, bright green fronds that are highly divided and have overlapping leaflets. The fronds tremble in the breeze, giving the plant its common name. It thrives in forests, riparian zones, and sheltered coastal areas, making it an excellent ground cover for native planting projects.
Growing Conditions:
• Tolerances: Frost, sun, shade, salt, wind, coastal, and free-draining soils.
• Endemic Distribution: New Zealand (Kermadec Islands, Three Kings, North, South, and Chatham Islands). Also found in Australia, Tasmania, Lord Howe, Norfolk, and Fiji.
