Phormium cookianum - Mountain Flax, Wharariki
A graceful, flax-like New Zealand native with weeping foliage and distinctive twisted seed pods. Mountain Flax is particularly valued for its strong root system, making it an excellent choice for erosion control, riparian margins, and landscape plantings that support native wildlife.

A tough, long-lived flax that is slow to establish and slow growing, but extremely resilient once settled. Best planted in full sun to light shade with room to develop its wide clump and extensive root system. Particularly well suited to exposed sites, slopes, and restoration plantings where stability and ecological value are required.
