








Coprosma grandifolia - Kanono, Large-Leaved Coprosma
Kanono is a striking large shrub with pairs of thin, wavy, mottled leaves that can grow up to 20cm long. Its oval, pointed leaves feature small pits at the junction of veins and a sharp dark point on the stem between leaf pairs. In autumn and early winter, it produces vibrant orange to red fruit on prominent stalks in open clusters, making it an excellent food source for birds.
Growing Conditions:
• Tolerances: Sun, wind, shade, and free-draining soils.
• Endemic Distribution: Native to New Zealand’s North and South Islands, extending to Lake Ianthe in the west and the Marlborough Sounds in the east.
Specifications:
• Height: Up to 6m
• Flowering: April – June (occasionally in September); green or white flowers.
• Fruiting: October – January (occasionally extending to April).
