About:

A low, spreading plant with a loosely branched structure, this species features small narrow leaves that exhibit a light to yellowish green colour. In late summer months, it becomes a striking sight, studded with charming white-tipped bracts that radiate around the flower-heads. This particular plant thrives in lowland to low-alpine areas and is found exclusively in the beautiful landscapes of the South Island.


Natural habitat: 

It is widespread in tussock grasslands in all but the wettest mountains at altitudes of 400-1500m.

Frost, Sun, Wetland, Wind & Free draining tolerant.


Endemic distribution:

Widespread throughout New Zealand’s South Island.

How to grow:

Grown from fresh seed or cuttings. They prefer a sunny situation on dry to moderately moist soil


** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4 weeks cold stratification will help speed this up though
