About:

A variable species that can be found thriving in environments ranging from lowland regions to high-alpine areas, reaching elevations of up to 1850m, primarily extending from the southern parts of the North Island southward. This intriguing mat-forming plant can grow up to 60cm in diameter, featuring small, loosely packed grey leaves that provide a distinctive appearance, along with tiny, delicate pale yellow flower-heads that add a subtle touch of colour to its surroundings.

Natural habitat:

Naturally found covering stone-strewn dry river and stream beds and in dry alpine rocky places and screes

Growing environment:

Frost, Sun, Wind & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

New Zealand’s Southern North and South Islands.

Uses:

Bird food / Attractant, Bee food & Riparian plantings

How to grow:

Easy to cultivate in poor, freely drained soil and seem to be hardy. Propagation is easiest by division.

** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4 weeks cold stratification will help speed this up though
