About:

Pikopiko is a fascinating fern that features dark green, resilient fronds which can tend to be somewhat variable in appearance. The stipes, or stalks, are densely covered in narrow blackish-brown scales, adding to its unique texture. Additionally, P. neozelandicum is not only visually appealing but also serves as an excellent choice for a pot plant, making it a delightful addition for both indoor and outdoor gardening enthusiasts.

Natural habitat:

Coastal to montane. Common fern of forested hillsides and banks, coastal cliff faces (under scrub), usually in well-lit conditions. It has also extended its range into urban situations where it sometimes a feature of roadside banks and cuttings.

New Zealand: North, South, Stewart and Chatham Islands, In the North Island ranging from Taupo and the South Bay of Plenty southwards.

How to grow:
