About:

This is a similar species to L. fasciculatus, which is commonly known as mingimingi. It is primarily found on the Chatham Islands, where it forms an upright, bushy shrub that can grow up to 1 m in height. Additionally, it can also be observed at North Cape, where it tends to grow in a more prostrate and spreading manner.

Natural habitat:

Strictly coastal. Usually on stable, sand dunes, dune slacks and sand flats, more rarely on sandy soils in pasture. Also rocky headlands, at the head of ravines and in low, windswept coastal scrub where it may be dominant. Prefers free-draining substrates and avoids permanently damp soils.

Drought, Sun, Salt, Wind, Coastal & Free draining tolerant.

New Zealand’s Chatham Island. Also present in Australia

How to grow:

Easily grown from fresh seed. Can also be grown from semi-hardwood cuttings although these can be slow to strike. An attractive shrub that does well in exposed sandy soils and is very drought tolerant.

** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4 weeks cold stratification will help speed this up though
