About:

A small, mat-forming, perennial sub-shrub that can be found thriving in the rocky, alpine areas of New Zealand’s picturesque South Island.

Natural habitat:

Alpine (> 1300m), usually amongst rocks, on cliff faces or in fell field, and on gently sloping, rock strewn ridge summits.

Growing environment:

Frost, Sun, Wind & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

New Zealand’s South Island from Central Otago east to Fiordland.

Height: 3cm

Flowering: 

November - January with a red-pink to yellow coloured flower/s 

Fruiting:

December – April

Uses:

Bird food / Attractant, Bee food & Alpine plantings

How to grow:

Difficult. Best suited to an alpine specialist & should not be removed from the wild.
