H. novae-zeelandiae is a dense, spreading, and marginal or shallowly submerged aquatic perennial that boasts small, rounded, shallowly lobed, and scalloped mid-green leaves. This plant is well-suited to various aquatic environments and exhibits a resilient nature. Inconspicuous green flowers, which are quite delicate, occasionally bloom from mid-spring into the warmer summer months, adding a subtle charm to its overall appearance.

Natural habitat:

Wet and damp places around swamps, creeks and lake margins.

Growing environment:

Sun, Shade, Wetland, Wind, Coastal & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

Throughout New Zealand’s North, South, Stewart and Chatham Islands.

How to grow:

Easily grown from seed or division. Grow in full sun or partial shade in boggy areas, at pond margins, or in water up to 25cm deep. Note will spread rapidly.
