About:

This species is typically found east of the main divide, extending its range from Nelson all the way down to Southland. It forms a prostrate, sprawling mat that can cover a significant area, presenting smooth, somewhat rounded leaves that are a vibrant deep green on the upper side and a striking reddish hue on the underside. During the summer months, small clusters of delicate mauve to white flowers are borne, adding to the plant's visual appeal.

Natural habitat:

Montane to subalpine, Usually found on rubbly ground such as braided riverbeds, screes, moraines, stony ground and in stone-strewn grassland

Growing environment:

Frost, Sun, Wind & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

New Zealand’s South Island Nelson, eastern Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, to Southland

How to grow:

Easily grown from cuttings, rooted pieces and fresh seed.
