About:

A summer-green plant characterised by its narrow strap-shaped leaves that can grow up to 12 cm in length, it also produces single, delicate white flowers with starry petals. This species is commonly found throughout New Zealand, thriving at elevations ranging from 300 to 1500 m, and it is particularly more widespread from the central North Island extending southward across the country.

Natural habitat:

Montane to subalpine bogs, descending to sea level in southern part of its range. Often grows at the margins of tarns, burn pools and slow flowing streams draining bogs.

Growing environment:

Wetland, Wind & Clay tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

New Zealand’s North, South and Stewart islands from the main central North Island axial ranges and volcanic plateau south. Also in Australia.

How to grow:

Difficult. Should not be removed from the wild. Can be propagated from seed, cuttings or division.
