About:

This particular species is predominantly found from Rotorua and extends southward, thriving in a range of environments that include coastal regions and low alpine areas. It typically forms rosettes that display oval-shaped leaves, which are a vibrant green colour. These leaves bear a resemblance to those of C. incana, though they possess considerably less tomentum. Additionally, the flowerhead of this species showcases a variation in color, ranging from a delicate white to a warm yellow.

Natural habitat:

Coastal lowland through to low alpine grassland & herb-fields.

Growing environment:

Frost, Sun, Drought, Coastal, Wind & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

Rotorua in the North Island southwards to Southland and Fiordland in New Zealand.

How to grow:

Grown from fresh seed. Best grown in an alpine house, needing a scree-like growing medium and excellent drainage to prevent the crown from rotting.

 

** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4 weeks cold stratification will help speed this up though
