About:

This mat-forming species is characterised by its small, silvery green to grey leaves and produces daisies that can reach up to 3cm in width, emerging amidst the foliage. It thrives in the alpine regions of the South Island, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, alpine houses, or container displays. The species grows slowly and requires moist, well-drained soil, along with a semi-shaded location, especially in hotter climates.

Natural habitat:

Montane to alpine. In grassland, herb-fields and fell-fields. Sometimes on rock outcrops

 

Growing environment:

Frost, Sun, Shade, Wind & Free draining tolerant.

Endemic distribution:

New Zealand’s South Island. Widespread from Nelson south to Southland.

How to grow:

Difficult. Best grown from fresh seed but can be grown from cuttings. Should be planted in a free draining, moist soil. Excellent in a pot in an alpine house, or planted in a south-facing rockery. Dislikes humidity and will not tolerate drying out.

** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4-6 weeks cold stratification is recommended though
