About:
C. major var. brevis is a unique plant species that is found exclusively on the slopes of Mt Taranaki. This variety is notably smaller in overall size compared to Celmisia major var. major, making it more compact and better suited for inclusion in a rock garden setting. Its distinct characteristics also contribute to its appeal in horticulture and garden design.
Natural habitat:
Subalpine and alpine herb-fields.
Growing environment:
Frost, Sun, Shade, Wind & Free draining tolerant.
Endemic distribution:
New Zealand’s North Island, Mt Taranaki (Egmont).

How to grow:
Easily grown from fresh seed. One of the few Celmisia that adapts well to cultivation. Does best in a semi-shaded site in a moist, free draining soil. Dislikes humidity and inclined to be short-lived.
** Seed germinates without pre treatment. 4 weeks cold stratification will help speed this up though
